Benazir Bhutto…la courageuse?

h_9_ill_967810_bhutto.jpg

Peace be upon her…

Her Majesty The Queen diffuse ses vœux sur YouTube

YouTube Puts AdSense in Embedded Players

Certain sites can now embed YouTube players that contain an AdSense unit above the clip. Thus, you could soon make money by embedding YouTube clips in your site. It displays a new type of embedded player that’s long enough to accommodate the ad unit. It also mentions that the player is customizable.

The results could be interesting: if these are the typical Pay Per Click ads (probably a safe assumption), revenues will be low. If they are pay-per-view, however (click the banner to view a video ad in the player), the results could be…

Women still persecuted?

These stories do not come from one of those thrillers or TV serials. But its what has come to be, of our “paradise island”. Those 2 stories have made the headlines of L’Express today (21st September edition). Every week the same disgustful scenarios happen in Mauritius.

The bitter truth is that women n girls here still being treated as second class citizens.

Bus Drivers & Receivers abuse the elderly!

I have not really been a proponent of the “transport gratis”system. After all, I have not been privileged, having finished school a bit too early to benefit from this and having still a lot of time to go pu vin ‘3eme age’ so that I don’t pay :-) Ive always seen this scheme as being a foolish one adopted by the govt as all this money could have been diverted towards more productive usage.

How many times have we seen elderly people using the bus and smiling smuggly at the bus receiver while showing their ID/transport card. How many times have we just looked at those people angrily n jealously coz they got a seat and we had to stand !Oh God how we must have loathed them at that moment wen we had to stand for whole “trajet”!! So many times we would take the bus n got pushed by those “dadi’s & les mami” barging their way to enter the bus first. I even once got pushed, shoved, thrusted to one side of the crowd by their bags and bodies.. or we could get remarks as “Ban zenfan zordi zour, péna maniere!! Laisse mo rentrer mo beti/beta!!”...Sometimes I would see some old persons taking the bus and stop at the next bus stop! I often thought to myself: Can’t they do some bit of exercise and walk!! ;-)

We have all been witnesses of such situations before and felt like that. But, whether we agree or not, those elderly persons are mere victims of this disorganized, messy system.

They are in fact being more and more abused by bus receivers and conductors. We all heard stories about the bus not stopping to take them on as they don’t pay. I even read yesterday in l’Express that NTA has taken punitive measures against those who have behaved in a non-civilized way towards our elderly. Some have been suspended from work..But ,will this really be a detriment??

Today, during the MBC news (which I have watched after such a long time!), I saw that the National Transport Corporation (NTC) launched new buses yesterday, and no need to add that the MBC was glorifying that”NTC will be able to provide better services to the citiziens”…n so much blabla on NTC.

But they forgot to add that on the very same at around 7.15 a.m on one of their brand-new bus (with air-con, seatbelts, etc) an old lady was PHYSICALLY ABUSED/MIS-TREATED !!! Yet again the elderly is harassed just because she had the misfortune of being too old and benefiting from the TRansport-Gratuit…

This time the bus conductor conciously and cruelly blocked her with the door !! U imagine the poor woman got the closing door pressing againgt her ribs such that she couldn’t move..being stuck!!! She even had to plead/beg the bus driver to let her go!!

Better service is not only about brand-new buses with lots of gadgets, music, air-con etc!! WE NEED QUALITY SERVICE from those working in those bus!!

Parasailing is awesome!!

After my hectic week with the intercollege, this one has been excellent and very relaxing at work. My week started so well…

Tuesday we had our traditional lunch with the athletes and some collegues who helped at the stadium. The same day I attended a football match at George v stadium and prize giving ceremony . Our girls were awarded a trophee for their performance in volleyball festival organised by the Municipality of Curepipe.

Today, I accompanied 22 students to Ile Aux Cerfs and waterfall at G.RS.E in the context of the exchange program with Delhi Public School. In fact, every year we welcome Indian students here and they stay with some of our students and their families. Had a lot of fun with the kids in the speedboat…Wonderful time on the island with the kids and some other colleagues…

This time I did parasailing. AWESOME!! Was a bit scared to do it other times I went to Ile o cerfs.. ;-) But it was a truly fantastic experience!! Seeing others go was bit scary in the beginning and the fact that some couldnt land properly on the wooden platform was a big stress for me.. I didnt want lo land in the sea! lol But I Loved to be in the air. Here are some snaps of me n my colleague..

My dream comes true…

Simply Wonderful Experience :-)

benditdvd.jpg

Thats how I will describe my Saturday afternoon. Its been years now that I wanted to play football for a team.

Today, Ive played my first football match for Curepipe Starlight . Even if we lost I’m so happy that I played… G enfin pu realisé mon reve d’enfance!!

In fact, Ive always had this dream but my parents did not want me to play football. I insisted a lot but eventually was discouraged by so many persons when I was still in Form 1. That’s why and how I ended playing volleyball. I loved volleyball but I was still obssessed with football and Beckham of course. :D

Last year I even sneaked my way to Q.Bornes for football training before going to volleyball training. My mum eventually found out with the loads of mudded clothes I brought home. Was just like Jess in Bend it like Beckham. But now am playing and my mum knows and dont care that much. She knows she wont be able to stop me playing. LOL

To sum up… I LOV football..

England v/s Brazil (Beckham is back)

20070602_318193_02.jpg

Btw, yesterday BECKHAM was magnificent for England v/s Brazil and so was Gerrard. England needs Becks right now and he alone can create moments of pure magic for the team with just a free kick or corner.

Lampard should be kicked away. Yet another poor performance from him. I think Crouch should have played since start instead of Smith.

But England’s performance was “pas mal” compared to their poor performances. I see a win over Estonia on Wednesday. Beckham’s return now the spirit is there, they got to win!

3rd Year already over !

Exams finally over!!

Time to celebrate everyone will say but at the same time am feeling sad.

Coz 1 of our classmates gng abroad. Will miss him :-( he’s so good at heart this guy hope evrythg works out for him. So, we met him for a last time yesterday. N for the first time we went to eat somethg after exams..We were 9 in all n had a good time with each other… For once our plan didnt flop ! Now with less modules next semester hope we meet more often.. Next meeting will be for Ann’s birthday!

Am also feeling very sad as the fourth year is approaching. The time has passed by so rapidly. Only 2 semester to go now and I dnt feel like leaving uni. My last paper ended yesterday and today itself am feeling awkward coz have nothing to do, no more handouts and so on..We always complain when we have lots of stuff to do but nw I miss all that. Silly me :)
